Founded in 1909, the city of Tel Aviv is located on the Mediterranean coast, in the Western part of central Israel. This is the heart of the "Gush Dan" area. The distance between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv is 69 km (42 miles), when driving between the cities. Jerusalem is south-west to Tel Aviv.

The town of Jaffa is located to the south of Tel Aviv, although they share the same municipality. To the north you have Herzliya, Netanya, Hadera and Haifa. Distance between Tel Aviv and Haifa is 94 km (58 miles), a 1-hour drive. To the east of Tel Aviv you can fin dRamat Gan, Givatayim, Petah-Tikva and Kfar Sava.

Tel Aviv is the middle point of Israel's coastal plain ("Mishor Hahof", in Hebrew). To the south you have Bat-Yam, Holon, Rishon-Letsiyon, Ness-Tsiyona, Rehovot, Ashdod and Ashkelon.

Ben Gurion Airport is a 19 km (12 miles) drive from Tel Aviv. When driving from the airport, the direction to Tel Aviv is northwest.

Population of Tel Aviv is 400,000, whereas the urban population of the entire Tel-Aviv area is 1.28 million.
