Tel Aviv Highlights – November 2011
Canadian pop singer, Paul Anka, is coming for a single concert in Tel Aviv this month. Anka became famous as a teen singer in his native Canada. His hits, among others, include "Diana", "Lonely Boy" and "Put your Hand on my Shoulder". The concert will take place at Tel Aviv's Nokia Hall, a venue that can seat 11,000 people (November 12th, Tel Aviv Nokia Hall, 21:00).
Martha Grahahm Dance Company
The oldest dance company in America is coming to Israel for a series of shows. Founded in 1926, it was headed by its namesake until her death in 1991. The company has a repertoire of 181 works, and names such as Merce Cunningham and Mikhail Baryshnikov have danced with the company in the past. The shows will be divided into two programs, and will feature works by Martha Graham such as "Embattled Garden" (1958) and "Maple Leaf Rag" (1990). (November 1st-5th; Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center, 1-minute walk from Vital Hotel.)
Israeli Glass 2011
This exhibition seeks to present the state of Israeli glass, as well as to follow its evolution and development. It showcases around 100 works from 66 artists (young as well as established), who master different techniques and use various materials (Eretz Israel Museum in Tel Aviv, through November 15th).
Pat Metheney Trio
Pat Metheney is known to be one of the most successful jazz guitarists. Critically acclaimed, he came to prominence in the 1970s and 1980s and has won 18 Grammy awards in various Jazz categories. His style combines elements of progressive and modern Jazz with Latin influences and post-Bop. This will be Metheney's first visit to Israel since 2000 (November 26th, Tel Aviv Bay, Hanger 11, 22:00).
