Tel Aviv Highlights – June 2011

Ta'am Ha'ir Food Festival
How can you tell that summer is here (besides the rising temperatures and the impossible humidity)? It is time for the annual Ta'am Ha'ir Food Festival.  The festival that kicks off the summer is coming back to its native Tel Aviv after taking place in Haifa for the last two years. Starting back in 1996, this festival showcases one-hundred restaurants that present a tasting menu of their signature dishes at an affordable price.  This event draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. So if you're a bona fide foodie, be sure not to miss out on some of the best restaurants Tel Aviv has to offer (June 13th-16th, from 18:00, Ganei Yehoshua at the Tel Aviv Exhibition grounds).

Tel Aviv Gay Pride Parade 2011
Super-fun and always colorful, the Tel Aviv Pride Parade also marks the beginning of summer. Tel Aviv has long been known for its tolerance towards different lifestyle and is recognized as one of the most gay friendly cities in the world. The parade passes through downtown Tel Aviv and features trucks with dancers and DJs. It ends at the beach where the partying continues until sunset (June 10th).

New Olds exhibition at the Design Museum Holon
Seventy works by sixty designers from around the world (including Israel) are taking part in this exhibition that not only offers modern and contemporary interpretations to old objects, but also examine the connection between tradition and innovation. The crafts explored range from weaving and embroidery to glassblowing and woodcarving (Until September 10th, Design Museum Holon, 8 Pinhas Eilon St. Holon).

Bob Dylan in Israel
It's been a long time coming, but it's finally here: Bob Dylan, one of the most important rock-folk musicians of our century, is coming to Israel for one stadium concert. Dylan is coming to Israel as part of his European tour and the concert will take place shortly after his 70th birthday.  This is Dylan's third time performing in Israel, and he is expected to perform songs from throughout his career (June 20th, Ramat-Gan Stadium).
