Tel Aviv Highlights – April 2011
This month there is an eclectic mix of visual art, music and sports.
Fresh Paint Art Fair
Fresh Paint Art Fair will be held for the fourth time. The fair showcases contemporary Israeli art and draws tens of thousands of visitors each year. The (surprising) venue of the fair changes every year, and this year it will be held at Botanical Gardens in the south of Tel Aviv. The fair will feature the leading galleries in Israel, alongside new and up-and-coming artists that will present their works in the Independent Artists' Greenhouse (April 5th-9th, 51 Ben-Zvi Rd. Tel Aviv).
The theme of the sixth biennale of ceramics, which takes place at the Eretz Israel Museum, is the relationship between human beings and technology. 110 ceramic artists and designers offer their interpretation to the connection between traditional and modern methods of working with clay. The Biennale is held in cooperation with the Ceramics Artists Association in Israel (Eretz Israel Museum, Tel Aviv. Until June 15th).
The Indie band, the Twilight Singers, are coming back to Israel for two shows. Founded by Afghan Wigs front man Greg Dulli, the band has been active since 2000 gaining critical and commercial success. Their concerts in Israel are part of their tour to support their latest album Dynamite Steps which was released in February. This is the band's second visit, after having performed in 2006 (April 16th & 17th, Reading 3 club, Tel Aviv).
Justin Bieber Concert
And from an indie act to the pop world greatest sensation: Justin Bieber. Only 17, Bieber is the biggest pop artist to have been discovered on YouTube, and with over 350 millions views for his song "Baby" make him the most popular artist on the site. A global heartthrob, Bieber is likely stir madness and excitement (and break a few hearts) among pre-teenage girls (April 14th, Hayarkon Park, Tel Aviv).
Tel Aviv Marathon
Now that we've showcased several events for your soul, it is time for an event for your body. The Tel Aviv Marathon offers six courses: a standard Marathon (42.195K), a half Marathon (21.1K), a course for rollerbladers and hand-cyclers (21.1K), a 10K urban run and a relaxed 4.2K course. The routes pass through the Tel Aviv promenade, the center of the city and Hayarkon Park (April 8th).
